Sifton — Residents of the Sifton neighborhood can rest a little easier thanks to volunteers from the Vancouver Fire Department Cadet Program, the Vancouver Police Department’s Neighbors On Watch Citizen Volunteer Program and the Lewis and Clark Young Marines youth program. Vancouver Fire Marshal Heidi Scarpelli said the trained volunteers installed 190 smoke alarms Sept. 17 during a home safety survey and smoke alarm installation campaign organized by the fire department. Funding for the smoke alarms came from a federal grant for community risk reduction.
