Essington, Stony Brook defeat Presbyterian 42-24

STONY BROOK, N.Y. (AP) — Kyle Essington threw for four touchdowns and ran for another to lead Stony Brook over Presbyterian 42-24 on Saturday in the Big South Conference opener for both teams.

Essington finished with 292 yards on 17-of-27 passing with all of his scores in the air going for longer than 20 yards. His lone touchdown run was an 18-yard score midway through the first quarter for a 7-0 Seawolves’ lead.

Essington then fired off touchdown passes of 44 and 40 yards to Matt Brevi, a 22-yarder to Miguel Maysonet and a 42-yarder to Kevin Norrell, which put Stony Brook (2-3) up 42-17 late in the third quarter.

Brevi finished with 126 yards on five catches, and Brock Jackolski had 130 yards and a touchdown on 18 carries for the Seawolves.

Seth Moreland finished with 102 yards on nine carries for Presbyterian (1-4).
