Hiker missing in Mount Hood National Forest
Sunday, October 9, 2011
OREGON CITY, Ore. (AP) -- The Clackamas County sheriff's office says a search has turned up no trace of a Portland woman reported missing four days ago on a hike in the rain-soaked Mount Hood National Forest.
Authorities told the Oregonian (http://bit.ly/qGrfQE ) they would consult with a wilderness survival expert to see whether they should change their search tactics to look for a body.
Low clouds prevented the use of aircraft Monday when more than 50 volunteers searched steep and rugged terrain in rain and wind. The search resumed Tuesday with no sign reported of 47-year-old Lidiya Russu.
The paper said she is a Romanian immigrant and mother of six. She's reported to have left home wearing just a house dress and flip-flop sandals.
