SYDNEY (AP) — Olympian Dick Thornett, who represented Australia in three separate sports, has died. He was 71.
Thornett was a member of the Australian water polo team at the 1960 Rome Olympics before playing rugby union for Australia with his brother John, a Wallabies captain.
Thornett made the switch to rugby league in 1963 to join his other brother Ken at Parramatta and on the Australian team.
He is best known for his ruby league career, during which he played 11 matches for Australia.
Thornett’s death Wednesday came just a week before he and his brothers were due to be honored at a tribute dinner in Sydney.
