PITTSBURGH (AP) — Hines Ward says he’ll retire when he looks across the line of scrimmage and thinks he can’t get open.
That doesn’t appear to be anytime soon.
The 35-year-old wide receiver put together his first two-touchdown game in two years last weekend as the Steelers ripped Tennessee 38-17.
The seven-catch, 54-yard performance moved Ward within 13 yards of Michael Irvin for 18th-place on the NFL’s all-time receiving yardage list.
Ward says he doesn’t think much about where his career stands in relation to some of the sport’s all-time greats. He’s more concerned about getting the Steelers (3-2) back to the Super Bowl.
Pittsburgh hosts reeling Jacksonville (1-4) on Sunday and Ward said it’s important for the Steelers to put together back-to-back solid games.
