TACOMA, Wash. (AP) — Tacoma police say an officer fired multiple shots Wednesday night at a car driver who refused to stop and instead drove straight toward the officer, who was in a parked patrol car. Police Chief Don Ramsdell says the man was hit by a bullet and his car then hit a fence and burst into flames. KING-TV reports that police pulled him from the burning car and he was taken to a hospital. There was no immediate word on his condition.

Ramsdell says the officer was not hurt.

Police originally noticed the man driving with his lights off and tried to stop him but he refused to halt. Officers ran his license plate, found his address and were waiting at an apartment complex when he drove in.
