HOUSTON (AP) — Derrick Mason is eager to start fresh and put his brief, rocky stint in New York behind him. And the Houston Texans can’t wait to find out what the 37-year-old receiver still has left.

The Texans picked up Mason in a trade with the Jets, and coach Gary Kubiak says he could play for his new team as early as Sunday, when Houston (3-2) visits Baltimore (3-1).

Mason fills a need created when Andre Johnson injured his right hamstring in Houston’s 17-10 win over Pittsburgh two weeks ago. Kubiak says Johnson will sit out Sunday’s game.

The 5-foot-10, 197-pound Mason is in his 15th season. He says he’s arrived in Houston with something to prove after the Jets gave up on him after only two months.
