A school official Monday confirmed the name of a boy who jumped off the Interstate 205 Bridge late Thursday morning.

Aaron Brandley was 17 and a senior at Mountain View High School, said Carol Fenstermacher, spokeswoman for Evergreen Public Schools.

Officials needed to find the boy’s parents for permission to release his name. They located his father, who gave permission.

Although the boy’s body has not been reported found, friends and family members organized memorials over the weekend.

Brandley played on the school’s basketball team.

The incident was reported about 10:20 a.m. Thursday. Emergency responders in boats searched the Columbia River downstream of Interstate 205 on Thursday after a young man was seen jumping from the bridge.

Brandley jumped from the west shoulder of Interstate 205 southbound near the Washington shore.

A caller to The Columbian reported that he saw a young man with a backpack walking along the roadway about 10:15 a.m. with his head down. He appeared to be sending a text message.
