OLYMPIA, Wash. (AP) — The Washington State Patrol says a 3-point buck jumped into Interstate 5 traffic, hit the windshield of a passing car, flipped over the car, went through the back window and ended up dead in the trunk.

Trooper Guy Gill says the 55-year-old Lacey woman who was driving escaped with only minor abrasions in the Tuesday morning collision near Olympia. She was able to bring the 2001 Hyundai safely to the right shoulder with the deer still in the vehicle.

Gill says the deer ran across all the northbound lanes and jumped over the jersey barrier before the southbound car struck it. Troopers had to remove the large buck from the car before the vehicle could be towed away.

Gill says the deer probably died instantly.
