SEOUL, South Korea (AP) — The South Korean city of Pyeongchang has launched its organizing committee for the 2018 Olympic and Paralympic Games.

Kim Jin-sun, who has played a part in all three of the city’s recent bids, was elected president and CEO of the committee on Wednesday.

Moon Dong-hoo, who was involved in the organization of the recent world athletics championship in Daegu plus the 2002 World Cup and 1998 Seoul Olympics, was appointed vice president and secretary general.

Pyeongchang failed in bids to land the 2010 and 2014 Winter Olympics before beating Munich and French candidate Annecy for the right to host the 2018 Winter Games.

The committee says its first task is to liaise with the International Olympic Committee over venue design.
