West Minnehaha — Clark County residents are in a giving mood this holiday season, joining a project that’s not only fun, but will also help make a huge difference in the lives of needy children around the world.
On Oct. 8, residents celebrated the start of the 2011 Operation Christmas Child season. During the season, they aim to collect 6,280 shoebox gifts to send to children in countries suffering from natural disaster, war, terrorism, disease, famine and poverty.
Oksana Nelson, who received a shoebox gift when living in a Russian orphanage and was later adopted by an American family, shared about how this simple gift forever changed her life.
Nelson vividly remembers feeling surprised that people across the ocean would care enough about her to send her gifts. For information on how to get involved visit http://www.samaritanspurse.org/occ.
