Calls to hospitals fail to turn up missing cyclist

PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) — Volunteers searching for a missing Cycle Oregon volunteer say they’ve called about 4,450 hospitals in the United States looking for Mark Bosworth.

The 54-year-old Portland man last seen Sept. 16 at a campsite in Douglas County during the annual bike tour of Oregon. Search-and-rescue teams combed the area but found no trace of Bosworth.

Volunteers have knocked on doors throughout Oregon and sent stacks of fliers as far away as New York City. They hoped calling hospitals would lead to the discovery of an unidentified patient that would be Bosworth, but that wasn’t the case. Family members say Bosworth has suffered from cancer and they fear a relapse may be causing dementia-like symptoms.

Bosworth’s wife, Julie Bosworth, tells The Oregonian (http://bit.ly/vVjVQy) she’s grateful for the compassion and assistance from the community.
