COUPEVILLE, Wash. (AP) — In a civil trial that began this week in Coupeville, a woman says she was groped by Basil Badley, the husband of state Sen. Mary Margaret Haugen.

Courtney Jones is seeking $100,000 in damages for the assault she says she suffered in a 2008 dinner meeting at the Camano Island home of Badley and Haugen while Haugen was in Olympia.

The Daily Herald reports (http://bit.ly/mZPmEt ) Jones was 28 at the time and Badley 72. She was Haugen’s campaign manager.

Badley’s lawyer told the jury Wednesday that what happened that night was simply two adults “got drunk and exercised poor judgment.”
