BLACKSBURG, Va. (AP) — David Wilson ran for 162 yards and three touchdowns, and No. 13 Virginia Tech routed Appalachian State 66-13 on Saturday.

Wilson scored on runs of 20, 19 and 3 yards, and new quarterback Logan Thomas threw the first two touchdown passes of his career as the Hokies won their season opener for the first time in four years.

The Mountaineers, one of the powerhouse teams of the Championship Subdivision, came in with a much heralded offense led by quarterback DeAndre Presley. But the Hokies limited Appalachian State to 61 yards in the first half in taking a 38-0 lead.

Two touchdowns early in the third quarter — one on a blocked punt — pushed the lead to 52-0 and both teams substituted freely thereafter.
