FOXBOROUGH, Mass. (AP) — Veteran offensive lineman Brian Waters and New England have agreed on a contract and he reported for his first practice Monday, one week before the Patriots open the season at Miami.

Before joining the team, Waters’ training camp was at home with his family. The five-time Pro-Bowl guard was without a team until the Patriots called last week.

Waters spent 11 seasons with the Kansas City Chiefs before he was released at the end of July. Waters says it was a mutual parting.

He says a number of teams called, but he wanted to join the right club. When New England called him Friday, he knew he had an opportunity to join a Super Bowl contender.
