Three secure semifinal berths at Olympic qualifier

MAR DEL PLATA, Argentina (AP) — Puerto Rico, Argentina and Brazil all secured berths in the semifinals of the Olympic basketball qualifying tournament for the Americas on Tuesday.

Puerto Rico defeated Canada 79-74, Argentina overpowered Venezuela 111-93 and Brazil beat Panama 90-65. In Tuesday’s other second-round game, the Dominican Republic defeated Uruguay 84-76.

The winners of Saturday’s semifinals qualifying for the 2012 London Olympics. The third- through fifth-place finishers get to participate in a tournament for the final berths in London.
