Miles not promising time for backups vs Demons

BATON ROUGE, La. (AP) — Les Miles doesn’t want to consider how much playing time backups might get when second-ranked LSU hosts Northwestern State on Saturday night.

With the Tigers playing an opponent from the Football Championship Subdivision, and with a tougher game at Mississippi State looming next Thursday night, Saturday’s contest could provide a chance for junior college transfer quarterback Zach Mettenberger to make his LSU debut in relief of starter Jarrett Lee.

However, Miles says that winning comes first and it is not in his nature to overlook an opponent.

Miles says he’ll look for opportunities to play his reserves only after a victory is virtually assured.

LSU is 10-0 all-time against Northwestern State and has never allowed a point to the Demons, but all previous meetings came between 1911 and 1942.
