Letter: Peaceful getaways are fading away

Once a year, you look forward to the end of summer and Labor Day vacation with your family. You make sure you have all the equipment and gear to sit around at night with s’mores while stargazing. Yet, in reality, the peaceful family vacations are a thing of the past.

Everyone deserves to enjoy what our forests have to offer. Swift Reservoir is a gem to say the least. Great fishing, views of eagles fishing and the quietness it has to offer, just two hours away. Well, this year’s trip was a horrible experience. No peace from the loud ski boats with their overhead loud music systems. What makes these people think that everyone wants to hear R-rated music? These same people show no respect when not giving fishing boats enough distance to avoid swamping. Loud music continued well into the night and we could not enjoy a peaceful fire and stargazing because of it.

Even a visit from the sheriff made things worse; they mocked the sheriff after he left and we campers got nothing but harassment from our complaint — and they turned up music even louder. Peaceful getaways into our backcountry are sadly gone, with nothing to keep these disrespectful, self-centered people out.
