METAIRIE, La. (AP) — Sean Payton says the Saints’ defense has a lot to work on after giving up 399 yards in a 42-34 loss at Green Bay on opening night.
The Saints head coach also says it’s too early to evaluate some of the changes made in defensive personnel during the offseason.
Payton says it’s always disappointing after a tough loss, but that coaches and players are paying close attention to game film and will make needed corrections.
Against Green Bay, New Orleans yielded 103 yards rushing and had trouble putting pressure on Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers, who threw for three touchdowns.
Saints safety Malcolm Jenkins says Green Bay’s offense is as good as any the Saints will play, and that the problems New Orleans had with tackling and alignment can be fixed.
