STILLWATER, Okla. (AP) — No. 9 Oklahoma State went down a familiar path to find its running back of the future.
Joseph Randle grew up in Wichita, Kan., playing youth football on a field named after Barry Sanders, the 1988 Heisman Trophy winner at Oklahoma State.
On Thursday night, Randle provided a glimpse of how dynamic a player he can be in the position Sanders once played.
Randle was 1 yard shy of becoming the first Cowboys player with at least 100 yards rushing and 100 yards receiving in the same game. He had 121 yards rushing and two touchdowns, and also caught nine passes for 99 yards in Oklahoma State’s 37-14 win against Arizona.
Coach Mike Gundy says Randle’s versatility reminds him of another Pro Football Hall of Famer, Marshall Faulk.
