Holy Cross cruises past Colgate 37-7

WORCESTER, Mass. (AP) — Ryan Taggart threw for two touchdowns and rushed for another score, leading Holy Cross in an easy win over Colgate in the Patriot League opener for both teams on Saturday.

Taggart finished 13 for 16 passing with 223 yards and added 14 yards on three carries for the Crusaders (1-1, 1-0 Patriot League), who won their sixth conference opener in seven seasons.

The Holy Cross quarterback threw a 15-yard touchdown to Charles McCall in the first quarter to help make up a 16-0 halftime lead. Taggart also had a 19-yard connection with Kyle Toulouse and a 1-yard rushing score for the only two touchdowns in the third, giving Holy Cross a 30-0 advantage going into the final quarter.

Nate Eachus scored on a 1-yard run for the game’s final score, helping Colgate (1-1, 0-1) avoid the shutout. Eachus gained 96 yards on 25 carries for the Raiders.
