ALBANY, Ore. (AP) — Oregon State Police say a 71-year-old Tillamook man is dead after driving on Interstate 5 in the wrong direction and colliding head-on with another vehicle.

Lt. Mark Cotter on Sunday says Monty Upshaw was driving northbound in the southbound lanes of I-5 south of Albany Saturday around 9 p.m. He says the preliminary investigation found Upshaw sideswiped an SUV and then collided with a pickup truck.

The driver of the pickup truck and his three passengers were transported to local hospitals for treatment of non-threatening injuries. Another passenger was unhurt. They are all from Coos Bay. The driver of the SUV, of Springfield, was not hurt in the crash.

Cotter said alcohol is suspected as a contributing factor in this crash.
