Kudryavtseva advances at Tashkent Open

TASHKENT, Uzbekistan (AP) — Defending champion Alla Kudryavtseva advanced to the second round of the Tashkent Open, beating fellow Russian Vesna Dolonts 6-2, 7-5 on Tuesday.

The sixth-seeded Kudryavtseva was serving for the match at 5-3 in the second set, but Dolonts broke back and went on to even the match at 5-5. The 64th-ranked Kudryvtseva wrapped up the victory on her first match point on Dolonts’ serve in the 12th game.

Third-seeded Pauline Parmentier of France lost to Eleni Daniilidou of Greece 7-5, 6-1, and fellow Frenchwoman Aravane Rezai, seeded eighth, fell to local favorite Akgul Amanmuradova 6-4, 6-3.

Top-seeded Ksenia Pervak of Russia was scheduled to face Galina Voskoboeva of Kazakhstan in a later first-round match.
