STILLWATER, Okla. (AP) — With an offense that’s putting up enormous numbers nearly every game, it’s easy to overlook a strong start on defense for No. 8 Oklahoma State.

Playing opposite quarterback Brandon Weeden and star receiver Justin Blackmon, the Cowboys (2-0) have allowed their first two opponents to average only 134 1-2 yards in the first half with no touchdowns. That has allowed Oklahoma State to take a three-touchdown lead by halftime in both games.

Defensive coordinator Bill Young said Monday that he doesn’t mind if the offense hogs all of the attention, and the defense will get what it deserves if it continues to improve. The offense ranks second in the nation with 630 yards per game.

Among the goals on defense is the program’s first shutout in nearly a decade.
