KLAMATH FALLS, Ore. (AP) — Oregon State Police say the passenger in a car stopped for seat belt and signal violations jumped back in the vehicle, sped off across a golf course and then fled on foot into the Klamath River before police found him in some marsh grass.

Later they learned that 32-year-old Enrique Alcaraz Placencia of Bell, Calif., was sought on a U.S. Marshals Service fugitive warrant alleging multiple drug and weapons crimes in Eastern Washington.

State police and Klamath County sheriff’s officers were involved in Monday’s arrest of Bell, initially for attempting to elude and criminal mischief.

Police say the Reames Golf and Country Club suffered minor damage from car tracks across some fairways.

Trooper Travis Peterson had both the driver and passenger out of the car on US Highway 97 near Klamath Falls when the passenger jumped back in.

Both men were cited for possession of less than an ounce of marijuana.
