KLAMATH FALLS, Ore. (AP) — A vacated housing development near Klamath Falls contaminated with asbestos has been placed on the federal Superfund list for an environmental cleanup.

The Herald and News (http://bit.ly/r6QSOc) says the designation means 90 percent of the property’s cleanup costs will be covered by federal funds.

The paper said a report due out in coming weeks is expected to outline the timeline and cost of the project, which has been estimated at $22 million.

The asbestos came from boards on the walls of military barracks used decades ago.
