SALEM, Ore. (AP) — The staff of the Oregon Legislature will have four unpaid furlough days in the next year.

The Statesman Journal reports (http://bit.ly/olnxlc ) two will combine with Thanksgiving and New Year’s holidays and the others will be taken in March and May.

Legislative leaders announced the furloughs last week for the personal assistants and professional advisers for the state’s 90 lawmakers for the year ending June 30. Additional furloughs may be necessary in the second year of the budget biennium.

The Legislature has a staff of 443. Other state employees will take 10-to-14 unpaid days in the two-year period, depending on how much they are paid.
