DUNSANY, Ireland (AP) — Annika Sorenstam says Europe needs a win against the United States in the Solheim Cup to end talk that the biennial match-play event is too one-sided.

The United States leads the series 8-3 and will be seeking its fourth successive victory when the competition starts Friday at the Jack Nicklaus-designed Killeen Castle course.

Despite the American dominance, Sorenstam does not want to see the format changed to have the U.S. taking on an international team.

The 10-time major winner, a non-playing assistant to Europe captain Alison Nicholas, wants to maintain the current the system, even while acknowledging that many of the top women’s professionals are from Asia, Australia and Latin America.
