NEW YORK (AP) — Saltamontes prevailed in a three-way photo to pull an upset at 16-1 Thursday in the $44,000 allowance feature for New York bred fillies and mares at Belmont Park.
The leader right from the start, Saltamontes held on by a neck over Lady On the Run with Lady Vi a nose back in third.
Saltamontes, ridden by apprentice Irad Ortiz, Jr. and trained by Rudy Rodriguez, paid $34.20, $10.40 and $6. Lady On the Run returned $3.70 and $2.90. Lady Vi paid $7 to win.
The time was 1:10.80 for the six furlongs on the fast track.
