Police officer severely hurt in highway crash

ANCHORAGE, Alaska (AP) — An Anchorage police officer is hospitalized with severe injuries after a wrong-way driver collided with his patrol vehicle on a highway.

Police say officer Randy Hughes sustained multiple fractures in the crash early Friday morning on the Glenn Highway in Eagle River, north of Anchorage. Lt. Dave Parker says the injuries are not considered life-threatening.

The other driver, 49-year-old Gregory Fulling of Marysville, Wash., but is expected to be released from a local hospital shortly.

Parker says the sedan was heading northbound on the southbound side of the highway when the crash occurred near the Hiland Road exit.

The investigation is continuing and no arrests have been made.

KTUU-TV first reported the crash.
