Sharks handle Ducks 5-1

SAN JOSE, Calif. (AP) — Dan Boyle and rookie Matt Irwin scored in the first period and the San Jose Sharks routed the Anaheim Ducks 5-1 in a preseason game on Friday night.

The Ducks are winless in their first three games of the preseason.

Anaheim goalie Dan Ellis was busy in the first two periods as San Jose outshot the Ducks 36-7. He was replaced at the start of the third by Jeff Deslauriers.

The Sharks finished the night outshooting Anaheim 49-14.

San Jose also got goals from Douglas Murray, Torrey Mitchell and Andrew Murray.

Ryan Getzlaf scored for Anaheim.
