SEATTLE (AP) -- Organizers expect thousands of people at climate rallies across the West on Saturday.

One of the biggest demonstrations was set for Seattle's Lake Union Park, where at least 3,000 people were expected to arrive -- many by bicycle, paddleboard and foot. Mayor Mike McGinn was scheduled to address the crowd. Other "Moving Planet" rallies were planned in Bellingham and Olympia, as well as Portland, Ore., and Anchorage, Alaska.

In Colorado, hundreds of cyclists planned to ride 37 miles from Boulder to Denver to call for solutions to climate change.

The rallies coincided with others across the country and the globe. They were aimed at moving beyond the use of fossil fuels.
