SEATTLE (AP) -- About two dozen homes have been evacuated while utility crews respond to a natural gas leak apparently responsible for an explosion and fire that destroyed a home in north Seattle and sent two residents to a hospital.
Fire Department spokesman Kyle Moore says Metro buses were brought in to shelter residents while crews from Puget Sound Energy make repairs.
The explosion around 6 a.m. Monday was heard miles away. Windows broke in the neighborhood where debris rained down.
Moore says arriving firefighters found the house in flames and a man and woman in their 50s with burns. They've been taken to Harborview Medical Center. The woman has life threatening injuries; the man is in serious condition.
Puget Sound Energy spokeswoman Allison Stanford says its crews are at the scene.
