SPOKANE, Wash. (AP) — Police say a released sex offender is a suspect in the slaying of a woman in Spokane.

Police said Thursday investigators have searched a car and apartment used by 24-year-old Derrick Ross Vargas. He has not been charged in the death of 48-year-old Evon Moore whose body was found Aug. 13.

Vargas was arrested Sept. 23 for investigation of rape in a separate case and is held in the Spokane County Jail.
