FLORENCE, Ore. (AP) — Oregon State Police say a suspicious object found on a bridge has prompted the closure of a state highway near Florence.

Lt. Gregg Hastings tells The Oregonian that a state police bomb squad has been dispatched from Salem to the Oregon coast to check out the object on Oregon Highway 126W.

State police said Tuesday night the highway might be closed for several hours.

The spokesman said he would have no further information until the bomb squad had finished checking the object.
