Eyman aims to renew Washington anti-tax initiative

EVERETT, Wash. (AP) — Initiative activist Tim Eyman of Mukilteo has started collecting signatures on a measure limiting the tax power of Washington state lawmakers.

If passed, I-1185 would require a two-thirds majority in the Legislature or a vote of the people to create or raise taxes.

Sound familiar? Voters approved the idea in 2010 with Eyman’s Initiative 1053. Eyman says it needs to be renewed every two years or lawmakers could ignore it in January.

The Daily Herald reports (http://is.gd/0aL8RH ) Eyman said Monday he does not have a major financial backer for his latest effort and he has not hired a professional signature-gathering firm.
