ISLAMABAD (AP) — Pakistani police say a suspected suicide bomber detonated his explosives near a vehicle carrying a senior police official in the southern port city of Karachi, killing two people.

Police officer Mohammed Rafique says five people were also wounded in Thursday’s attack in the Malir area of Karachi. The apparent target of the bombing, Malir police chief Rao Anwar, was unharmed.

No group has claimed responsibility for the attack.

Karachi has a long history of ethnic, sectarian and political violence. It is Pakistan’s largest city and its commercial capital.
