CHEYENNE, Wyo. (AP) — A federal judge has determined that an Oregon man is competent to stand trial on charges he carjacked a man in western Wyoming last year.
U.S. District Judge Nancy Freudenthal of Cheyenne on Friday set an April 23 trial date for Roy Fritts and his wife Jessica Fritts. They’re both charged with the carjacking and shooting of a man last August.
The couple was arrested near Echo, Utah, following a car chase. Police say they were driving a van belonging to a California man found shot and wounded near Flaming Gorge Reservoir in Wyoming.
Roy Fritts faces new charges of conspiracy to commit murder and assault stemming from a metal pipe attack this January at a federal prison near Seattle. The attack left a corrections officer with severe skull fractures.
