SPOKANE VALLEY, Wash. (AP) — A sheriff’s spokesman says a man suspected of shoplifting at a Wal-Mart in Spokane Valley swung a knife at a security guard, then raced from the store, jumped in an occupied car and drove off.

Spokane County sheriff’s Deputy Craig Chamberlin said a man was sitting in the front passenger seat of the car and his wife was in the rear seat Monday afternoon as they waited while their daughter bought groceries.

Chamberlin says the shoplifting suspect stopped the car a short time later and allowed the couple to get out.

Neither the couple nor the security guard was hurt.

Deputies are looking for a man in his mid-20s and a white 2001 Dodge Intrepid.
