ARLINGTON, Va. (AP) — Washington Capitals goaltender Tomas Vokoun will not travel with the team for the start of its first-round playoff series at the Boston Bruins.

Vokoun is recovering from a groin injury that has sidelined him since March 29, when he left a game against Boston.

The Capitals said Michal Neuvirth will go to Boston for Thursday’s Game 1. But he didn’t practice Wednesday, and third-string goalie Braden Holtby is expected to make his NHL playoff debut.

Holtby has made 18 career regular-season starts, only six this season. His is 14-4 with a 2.02 goals-against average in the NHL.

He says he doesn’t “want to get too jacked up or anything” and that he will “go out and play, try and play my game, do what’s made me successful.”
