Letter: Do the right thing: Slow down

Sadly, reluctantly, I conclude all speed limit signs should be removed, except in school and residential areas. Why clutter our roads with signs when 75 percent of drivers drive any speed they want regardless of posted limits? It’s sad that jurisdictions in the richest country on Earth lack resources for proper enforcement of traffic laws. Sadder yet is that so few drivers do the right thing on our roads that more enforcement is needed. Furthermore, how can a healthy democracy continue when a large segment of its citizens choose which laws they will obey?

We know speed kills, especially when combined with booze, other drugs and phones. Do I really think the signs should come down? No, I want the signs as a guide to safe driving speeds. But I would sure like to see more compliance and more radar traps. Please. Slow down. Save gas. Save lives.
