SANDY, Utah (AP) — Real Salt Lake midfielder Luis Gil is only 18.

Yet teammates and coaches look beyond his youth and instead see a player capable of helping them in Saturday’s early-season showdown with undefeated Sporting KC.

Sporting KC is off to the best start in its 17-year history. The Eastern Conference leader also became only the third team in Major League Soccer history to open with five wins in five games.

Real Salt Lake, meanwhile, sits atop the Western Conference with 15 points and is seeking its third straight road win and best start in franchise history.

Players are quick to downplay it as a preview of the MLS Cup title game, especially in an eight-month season.

Gil, on the other hand, already is considered the real deal.
