Tetra Pak Materials in Vancouver will be named as one of the Washington State Recycling Associations’s “Recyclers of the Year” at a May 1 awards banquet during the association’s annual conference in Spokane.

Tetra Pak is being recognized for major organizational changes to implement an integrated environmental management approach, the association said. All Tetra Pak employees receive training and work together toward environmental goals, allowing Tetra Pak to achieve a 98 percent recycling rate in 2011, with a 64 percent reduction in landfill disposal over the last five years.

Recyclers of the Year are selected by a panel of association members representing various aspects of the recycling industry, including collectors and processors, government agencies, businesses and nonprofit organizations.
