ST. PAUL, Minn. (AP) — A Minnesota House committee has voted down the Vikings stadium proposal.

The vote Monday night in the House Government Operations Committee is a major setback for the team’s decade-long bid for a taxpayer subsidy to build a replacement for the Metrodome. Six members of the committee voted against the bill while nine members voted against it.

Gov. Mark Dayton has been a vocal supporter of the stadium bid but it had struggled to gain momentum in the current legislative session. Members of the House committee raised numerous objections to the proposal, including whether it was a good deal for taxpayers and whether Minneapolis residents deserved a public vote on it.
