Letter: Warning would’ve been sufficient

Easter weekend was beautiful in Ocean Park. I went clamming with my boyfriend and his family, including his parents in their 80s who own a home there. We found out a couple of years ago that his dad has terminal cancer. These people are so active in the church and on their farm, it’s amazing to me how they keep up with everything. His dad has all the gear ready for clamming for each person each day.

My boyfriend and I got our limit and noticed his parents were getting tired; they counted and were allowed to take a couple more each. We took it upon ourselves to dig their last clams and we happily left for the path back to the house. We were stopped and issued a ticket on the grounds that they each needed a clamming handicap designation and each person must carry a driver’s license. I understand rules and regulations, but a warning to all would have worked this time.

Remember, don’t help the elderly if they don’t have correct documentation on them, as all will be sorry for lending a helping hand.
