ROSEBURG, Ore. (AP) — The Douglas County sheriff says the Oregon state medical examiner’s office has confirmed that human remains found on a Southern Oregon ranch are those of a Roseburg man missing since March 2009.

Sheriff John Hanlin said Friday that dental records and a forensic exam confirm the remains are those of Clayton Pankey.

On Monday, a rancher found clothing and ID belonging to Pankey. Searchers found skeletal remains nearby.

Pankey was 47 when he was last seen at a gasoline station in Sutherlin.

After he disappeared, Pankey’s van was found abandoned at a spot that’s about 10 miles from the ranch where the clothing, ID and remains were found.

Hanlin says sheriff’s detectives continue to investigate.
