WASHINGTON (AP) — The Roger Clemens perjury trial moves into the next phase with the planned seating of a jury and opening arguments.

Last week, the jury pool was narrowed to 36, from which the final 12 jurors and four alternates will be picked Monday morning. Opening statements are planned for Monday afternoon.

On Tuesday, U.S. District Judge Reggie Walton hopes to get to the first witness in the case. But it will be a short week for the trial. Walton will recess it at mid-day on Tuesday, and the trial will not resume until the following Monday.

Clemens, a seven-time Cy Young Award winner, is accused of lying to Congress in 2008 when the baseball star testified that he never took steroids or human growth hormone.
