Portland police want more surveillance cameras



PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) -- Portland police want to put up surveillance cameras to help officers watch for illegal drug deals in the Old Town-Chinatown district.

Lt. Robert King says officers would be able to monitor the video from their smart phones while on patrol.

The Oregonian reports (http://is.gd/POGdMU ) Police Chief Mike Reese will make a request to the city council Wednesday to allow police to enter agreements with private property owners to install cameras on their buildings.
