Letter: Progressives dissolve our future

The Columbian
Published: April 23, 2012, 5:00pm

Our government is obligated by law to mandatory payments for lavish entitlement programs such as Medicare, Medicaid and Social Security. The Government Accountability Office projects payouts for these programs will exceed tax revenues over the next 75 years.

Really? Medicare Part A payouts already exceed program tax revenues.

Social Security payouts already exceed payroll taxes.

These deficits require funding from other tax sources or borrowing.

This is a certain road to utter disaster, as interest on the debt vastly exceeds tax revenues. Wouldn’t it be nice if all businesses and corporations, with their employees, taxpayers and voters, could move overseas and leave the “progressive” scoundrels who got us into this mess holding the bag?
