METAIRIE, La. (AP) — Ben Grubbs says that when he ventured into free agency, New Orleans seemed like the right fit personally and professionally.

Grubbs grew up in Alabama and played at Auburn, and when All-Pro left guard Carl Nicks left New Orleans during same offseason in which Grubbs became a free agent, the opportunity to return to the South and join a record-setting offense presented itself.

Grubbs says he loves the food and feels right at home in the Big Easy. He also was already friends with Saints left tackle Jermon Bushrod, alongside whom he’ll play this season.

Saints offensive line coach Aaron Kromer says Grubbs was “bar far” the best free agent guard available after Nicks’ departure, and if he had chosen another team, New Orleans would have had a major drop-off.
